Hello,
I was very young when I saw my first tarot card reading. I remember how my mother and her friend gasped as they huddled over their magical cards. In our Latino home, that wasn’t so strange—folk magic was part of everyday life, coexisting peacefully with science and social science. So when I stumbled across a tarot deck at the age of 16, I knew I had to buy it.
And that’s when tarot became the love of my life.
As an awkward high school sophomore, I had plenty of time to explore the cards. Every day, after doing my homework, I laid them out for hours. First, I interpreted them using the tiny instruction booklet. Later, I checked out a library book with a skinny chapter on tarot and began reading for friends and family whenever I could.
Soon, I began to see connections between my readings and my day-to-day life. Tarot became my early warning system—it helped me see what was ahead. As I lived out the cards, I learned what they meant. After a few years, I was a tarot neophyte. I could read each card’s upright meanings, and sometimes, its reversals. But my tarot skills exploded when I found my first round deck!
In my twenties, round cards taught me to see what others were doing and what they were feeling…because I could see it in the cards. Later, I discovered that every round card had eight different expressions—not just an upright and a reversal.
Uncovering these eight expressions revealed the patterns, habits, and beliefs that guided my questioners/querents and shaped their likeliest future. I called this the future of least resistance, which can often be changed when people pivot away from their old habits. Over time, I learned to identify present and future opportunities for making better choices. As I helped others change their lives, more and more people found their way to my door.
Eventually, I went to college, and then graduate school, teaching 11 classes across 4 different disciplines. I became the first graduate student to be awarded the Cook College Leadership Excellence Award in teaching given by the Rutgers Department of Human Ecology. I earned a Ph.D., became a medical anthropologist, and wrote an academic book.
After graduation, I became the director of a Ph.D. program in Urban Health, and discovered that I loved mentoring intermediate and advanced students. For the next 10 years, I learned that I really enjoy working with people who want to deepen a pre-existing skill set. Having some basic knowledge equals a big head start! That’s why I decided to specialize in helping advanced beginners become insightful intermediates, or even experienced Diviners.

Step by step, I’ll walk you through my personal system for reading round cards and interpreting key patterns across any layout.
You can join us live on Tuesday, October 7th, Tuesday, October 14th, Tuesday, October 21st, Tuesday, November 4th, Tuesday, November 11th, and Tuesday, November 18th. The last week of October will be a Break Week, and you’ll watch an assigned video at home.

Q: When and where will classes be held? How long are they? What are the time requirements for this course?
There will be 6 live Zoom classes and 5 optional Zoom office sessions for those who want more support.
Classes will be held at 4pm Pacific/ 5pm Mountain/ 6pm Central/ 7pm Eastern Time on the following dates: Tuesday, October 7th, Tuesday, October 14th, Tuesday, October 21st, Tuesday, November 4th, Tuesday, November 11th, and Tuesday, November 18th.
Classes will be 2 hours long, and I estimate that you’ll need between 1-2 additional hours per week to practice what you learn in my class at home. I’ll also assign a 30-minute video to watch during Break Week.
There will be a 1-week holiday break from October 26th through November 3rd. You can use this Break Week to catch up on class videos and homework, take care of the rest of your life, or just relax.
Q: Do I have to show up live to every class? Will they be recorded? How do live class raffles work?
Everything will be recorded, and you’ll have access to the recordings for a year. It’ll be more fun if you come live, but you don’t have to. You could take the entire course from recordings. But I’ll be drawing names and giving away round decks and crystal orbs at the end of every class—so come live if you can! You must be present to win. Plus, if you come live, you get to ask questions, get immediate answers, and share your thoughts and insights with the group.
HOWEVER, the raffle for the largest orb will be open to EVERYONE who fulfills requirements that DON’T include live class attendance. More about this to come! Q: Will there be a Facebook Group? What will it be for? Do I have to join?
There is already an active Reading in the Round Facebook group with prior class members who post and ask or answer questions. I’ll be answering questions there, sharing new writing, testing new mini-classes, and occasionally posting videos and hosting Facebook lives.
I love teaching, and I want to grow my tribe. Group members will also get seasonal discount codes on future classes and gift certificates, and I’ll offer them upcoming class scholarship opportunities first. This Facebook group is meant to be a community of practice for all of my students, and I am more active there than I am anywhere. Ongoing, occasional mentoring is something I value and want to cultivate moving forward.
Q: Is this only for semi-professional or professional tarot readers?
No. This class is for advanced beginners and intermediate/advanced tarot practitioners who want to explore reading round cards. It will be especially useful for those who also feel called to walk the Diviner’s path (for me, Diviners are readers who use their skills to help others align with Spirit and their higher selves).

Yes. I’ll hold five office hour sessions via Zoom to answer questions and mentor students who want additional support as they tackle the material. I’ll also answer questions in the Facebook group during, in between, and after classes.
Office hours are scheduled for 90 minutes at 7pm Central Time on Thursday, October 9th; Thursday, October 16th; Thursday, October 23rd; Thursday, November 6th and Thursday, November 11th. I invite you to come and ask questions, chat, or just get support for your work.
There will be no office hours during Break Week.
Q: What kind of homework can I expect? Do I have to do it?
You’ll be asked to do practice readings for yourself and/or others using what you learn in my class. Afterwards, you’ll be asked to write about what you’ve discovered.
You’ll also be asked to fill out some detailed feedback forms, so I know what’s working for you and where you need additional teaching and support.
Some assignments will be optional, while others will be strongly encouraged! Of course, only you can decide whether you will do homework.
You can take a break from classes and office hours during Break Week (October 26-November 3rd). For Break Week, we’ll skip classes and I’ll ask you to watch a 30-minute video at your leisure instead.
